Summer 2007 Update Greetings from our new office in San Francisco! It's been a wonderful summer so far. We will not attend Paris Apple Expo this year. Like it or not, we are keeping very busy and have just completed several great projects (we love those!). A few highlights include:
The website was custom-built from the ground up using PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and CSS. It includes custom graphics design, multimedia content authoring & streaming, as well as the ability for the restaurant management to update the web content using a wiki-style online editor. Check out the Menu section, food is great, book a reservation online now! Since 1946, Capurro's Restaurant has been family owned and operated. Recently remodeled, Capurro's offers a traditional Fisherman's Wharf menu reminiscent of the family's Italian heritage. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner the restaurant features only the freshest locally caught seafood seven days a week from 11am to 10pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 10pm on Saturdays & Sundays. Featuring their own three piece band, five nights a week, dedicated to the music of the Golden Era, Capurro's offers a dining experience unlike any other!
Using Open Directory, Desktop Management, Portable Home Directories, Netboot/NetInstall and other technologies, every student at the school can now login anywhere on the network with their own roaming user account. Each grade and group has set Desktop Preferences so young students have specific applications available to them while older students and Faculty have their own custom desktops. Each Desktop machine was carefully cloned so all machines are exactly the same: they are easier to maintain, helping the school reduce total cost of ownership for these machines. WEBDBS is also offering affordable and efficient technical support over the school year using Remote Monitoring technologies and onsite visits to keep the network and server running at optimum levels at all times, offering peace of mind.
Until this year, the school was using a Windows 2000 Primary Domain controller and various other Windows 2003 member servers. We upgraded the domain's Active Directory schema, promoted two Windows 2003 server to Domain Controller level, installed Exchange 2003, then demoted the Windows 2000 Domain Controller to Member Server level and promoted one of the Windows 2003 Servers to Active Directory Schema Master and Global Catalog server in the process. Once Exchange was configured properly and using a SuSE Linux server as smart host for outbound mail relay, we configured POP3 connectors for automatic download of new messages from the SuSE server, enabled Outlook Web Access and Outlook Mobile Access for Windows Handhelds and Blackberries, and finally configured a SonicWall SSL VPN to enable encrypted remote access to email and other internal resources for faculty and staff. De Marillac Academy is an educational family that provides an innovative, comprehensive and accessible Catholic education in the Vincentian and Lasallian traditions for children from underserved families in the Tenderloin and other at-risk communities in San Francisco. |
