Spring 2009 Update Spring has just begun, yet we are keeping very busy and have just completed several great projects. A few highlights include:
We recently installed a new multihomed perimeter Firewall (IP tables) to simplify inbound traffic management and get rid of older equipment used previously. This saves energy, reduces heat produced, and also decreases the number of devices connected to the WAN switch. Everything is kept up to date with cron jobs (apt) running hourly, intrusion detection and monitoring is done with SNORT. De Marillac Academy
We recently installed a full Leopard Macbooks Cart at St. Vincent de Paul School extending their OS X 10.4 Open Directory infrastructure over wireless. Students can now work in the Science Lab with exactly the same profile, settings and work files as when they are in the Computer Lab, thanks to OS X Managed MCX Preferences and Portable Home Directories Synchronization. St. Vincent de Paul School
We recently installed a brand new HP Proliant Server with Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10.2 acting as firewall for port redirection to internal resources, as well as providing web services with Apache 2.x. Previously, the school was using a consumer-grade Netgear device for its firewalling needs. With this new hardware, communications are more reliable and secure. We also provided migration services for all IT resources to a new T1 line. St. Isabella School
We continued development of various online applications (IIS, MSSQL, ASP.NET, PHP backend - C#/ASP/Javascript frontend), and have been working on migration to a new payment gateway company and writing code for the new APIs. Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart
We recently installed a brand HP Proliant G5 Server acting as Firewall and Content Filter, using Debian Linux (Untangle appliance). This enabled us with remote access so we can work on any problem remotely and quickly. This also allows the school to control its LAN/WAN traffic so students cannot access objectionable content. This makes parents feel more secure. We also reimaged a laptop cart containing Dell Latitude computers. St. Hilary School |
